Painting grp cockpit

I used Jotun AX. Not the easiest paint to brush and not particularly glossy but its difficult to tell its not gelcoat even close up.

Thanks kam
Maybe I could try the hatch roof and see how it goes
How long did it take you to do your cockpit ? Thanks

How I love this site! Most of the time.

Really gives me any number of good reasons not to think of painting the cockpit, but getting the polisher and the Abralon pads out instead.

Thanks to everyone for the opinion, information and shared experience.

For the whole 10m boat I started some prep off and on from 27 Feb. Paint arrived 9 April. Working short days probably two thirds of the days. The deck has been time consuming due to masking round non slip. I think a week for a cockpit should be OK even in Scotland. The beauty of the 2 pack is that some days you can get two coats on. I highly reccomend SML paints as a supplier but wouldn't necessarily reccomend Jotun. Although with the prices being very keen there's no worry about wasting paid t or adding an extra coat. 5 litres did the hull nicely and I think 2.5 would have done the cockpit and deck. Worth using scales for measuring. SML provide weight charts with the paint. I did in out of used Waitrose coffee cups though.

I read a bit about the stuff you used, mixed reviews in terms of how easy it was to apply. But then you always seem to get positive and negative reviews
At this moment I can't understand how it would take a week to paint a cockpit, but I have learnt with other boat jobs to allow a lot longer than I assume it will take!

Wish I'd read those reviews before. I totally agree with them and think the manufacturer shouldn't be advertising the paint as suitable for brush and roller application or having a good gloss. I managed to get a good result but it was a lot more work than it should have been.
