Hello all.

A hypothetical question.

My Corniche originally had a grey bilge. At some point in it's life it was painted white(ish). Lots of the white paint is coming off and it looks nasty.

Just out of curiosity. If we were to repaint it what would be the best strategy that doesn't involve pulling the engines out!

A lot of internet research talks about stripping back to glass, but the grey finish is an unknown variable in that process.

If it was your bilge, what would you do? Asides from leaving it which is likely what I will end up doing.

On a side note the port engine head is off to replace the gasket and I am able to see more of the bilge than normal. Hence the (hypothetical) question.

Whoever did the first job did not do a great job it would seem. I would guess at the time it looked great but it hasn't stood the test of time.

I’ll be doing it soon. I’ve read danboline sticks to anything so slosh degreaser, rinse, vacuum, let it dry…..paint grey.

That’s my plan ??

I’ve used Danboline and found it to be fairly durable. It sticks well but you need to thoroughly degrease the surface first. I used engine degreaser before washing well and then abrading. The only downside is the gloss finish which quickly scuffs.

What I do is to scrape off any loose material, scrub with sugar soap, rinse and paint with Danboline. But I don't see why garage floor paint wouldn't do just as well; except my chandler doesn't stock it.

Interesting thoughts on the garage floor paint. No doubt alot cheaper. Not sure if it should go back to grey or new white though? I could be tempted to do a test area and see how it looks.
