Can anyone advise me on the situation with reguard to lead paint.
As I understand it (and please bear in mind I am a complete novice in such matters), lead paint ie red lead is what should be used on vintage wooden hulls as a primer and as a preservative.
However I am having a great deal of trouble getting hold of any.
Is it still available or is it banned? Are there modern alternatives? If so are they any good? If it is still available and still used where can I get hold of some.
I have just spent a fair amount of cash on hull repairs, replanking etc. and do not want to see it turn to rot simply for using the wrong paint.

Red and white lead are get-able. Google Classic Marine and Traditional Boat Supplies.

I get mine from Craig and Rose, paint manufacturers in Dunfermline Fife. I presume ther are plenty of other suppliers.
