So I took a break from working on the boat at about 3.30 this afternoon, looked over the sea wall and could hardly believe my eyes. A paddle steamer was coming upstream with the tide then turned into the bay at Stone, turned around and headed back out of the river. By the time I had remembered my binoculars she was stern on but I could make out twin funnels, red, white and black. It must have been a great site for the few people sailing today.
Never seen one in the Blackwater before, anyone know who she is and why she was there?

Here's a picture we took of her leaving Harwich in October 2008

Did a lovely trip from Harwich to London through Tower Bridge about 6 years ago. Stopped at Clacton and Tilbury Piers on the way. Lovely trip.

Check the Waverley website for itinerary. The Balmoral was about earlier in the season.

Both ships usual do a mainland circumnavigation very year, well sort of, working from Scotland and Bristol round the coast. Run by trusts and volunteers I think, and remember reading that both ships were getting too expensive to run?

Balmoral often in Bristol docks, seems to spend a lot of the winter here

I was on the Matthew a couple of weeks ago, also in Bristol Docks. I did a short bit of 3D filming on her, great fun :D

Yep, looks like the Waverley and was confirmed by acting on Habebty's suggestion and looking at the itinerary on their website. Today's trip was from Gravesend to Clacton with a cruise of the River Blackwater then return to Gravesend. She is going to be around the East Coast for a while so I expect more people will see her. Just wish I had a closer view today.
