I bought a new to me boat just under a year ago, it's a Princess 435 with Volvo 61a engines.
There is on the dash lights when ignition is on what I can only describe as a little picture of a coil.
When the engines run these lights stay on, I would have thought they go out once running?
i don't have a charging problem batteries are fine, so my questions are:
1. What do these lights represent
2. Should they go out when engines are running
3. If they should go out what is the possible cause and what damage can it cause?

All suggestions gratefully received!

Isnt that normally the symbol that is used to indicate when the glow plugs are to temperature?

Is the engine a bit slow to start?

The 61a tmd engine doesn't have glow plugs, they have a preheater installed just before the inlet manifolds. This light should extinguish with the engines running It could be a few items a relay is the first item to check , the second is the preheater fuses, each engine will have its own pre heater fuse. Hope this helps,

It's the fuse strip that has failed , there very cheap but beware young also need a new solenoid if the terminals have melted and one of the excite wires have melted as it all gets very hot.

Chances are you can just remove the solenoid and cap and stow wiring. VP will confirm (or not!) but I've never needed the manifold preheaters on my 27yr old 3000hr 61a's in the 10 years I've owned my boat.

Many thanks VP and all for your informative comments. I was thinking it was a solenoid problem as the first time I started the engines I couldn't stop the Stboard one! The solenoid was sticking and getting hot, had to use the old WD on it to get it operating again! Boat not been used much!

The stop solenoid is nothing to do with the heater solenoid . Did you leave the ignition in the stop position for a while as the early ignition switch allowed this to happen

On the ign 5 position ign key
0 verticle is off
S Acw is stop
1 cw ign on
2 cw is to start 1 min pre heat, indicator with coil comes on, (sprung then release)
3 cw is start

Once started pre heat ind comes on again for 1 min
