All I really want is 500g of Oxalic Acid xtals.
Once a case of a few clicks on ebay and free postage.
It is still freely but expensively available online in UK but need to purchase larger quantities and then P&P on top,
Smaller quantities available to apiculturists for pennies in EU............. then the taking back control import taxes on top . :)

I would suggest you search and find a good shop that sells wood finishing products. They often sell oxalic acid crystals.

Got my last lot from these guys following a recommendation here.. apparently its used in the bee keeping world for cleaning hives..

Linky ==> Oxalic Acid Crystals - Bees Online

Pity you not here ... I buy 2kg for a few euros ... its sold as Brick / Ceramic / Patio cleaner .... and for 'bleaching' woodstains ...

I asked shop if there any rules and he said none - its freely availble to all to buy for such use. I asked because I've read on other threads on forums like this - claims of EU rules restricting its use.

I think it's readily available here in France too, but I haven't bought any recently as I'm still using the 25kg bag I bought on UK eBay!

Great link, just ordered kg. My previous beekeeping supplier only sells pre-diluted now, apparently a restricted product to professionals only.

Used to be pennies a sack about 30 years ago when we used it to clean up wood..can still get it at the hardware shop buts it's gone crazy expensive.

Got my life time 1kg tub from Bees Online yesterday. Will top up my existing stash. Even with postage it worked out at same as I paid apiary supplier 3years ago . When I bought that, they said that was the last they would sell to public.

When did that happen?

The Poisons act of 1972 was amended in 2015 to require anyone wanting to buy oxalic acid above 10% concentration to have an EPP license from the Home Office. It is taking years for this to take effect - enforcement must be almost non existent. However, the law says that without a license it is illegal to buy, possess or export oxalic acid above 10% concentration. It is also an offence for a supplier to supply to anyone without an EPP license, so the suppliers listed on this thread who will sell it to someone without a license are breaking the law, as is the purchaser by buying and possessing it. The link to the government guidance is in #7. I am not criticising anyone for buying or selling it, or offering an opinion on the law, just stating what it is.

Hexamine which was used as a solid fuel for model steam engines and some camping stoves has gone the same way.
