I'm SO sorry to bring this up again, but I know someone recently mentioned some good online stockists, & I promise faithfully I've done a search but I can't find the post I was looking for. Help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Personally I found it easier to purchase a product designed to lighten wood such as outdoor furniture which itself is based on Oxalic Acid. Then dilute about 3:1 with water, add wallpaper paste and use carefully to remove waterline staining.

circa £10 for the bottle of the stuff worked out cheaper than online suppliers once p& p taken into account, and you don't need much.

In my little corner of Spain they use hydrochloric acid - it's sold as fuerte agua ( strong water) and used to clean flagstones, floor tiles etc after the pointing has gone off, putting down the loo, and other general cleansing problems. Obviously it disolves the lime and makes it scrubbable but they use it in the marina on the end of a mop to clean hulls and get rid of yellow stains, rust, water line marksm and to get rid of barnacles and mussels off stern drives and other metal parts. They just chuck it on, wait for the fiz to subside and jet-wash off. Cheap as chips (huh?) and very efficient.

Another vote for ebay. Plenty of suppliers selling the stuff in a range of weights. 5kg would last forever!

Also, I didn't use wallpaper paste, just a sponge and a pair of rubber gloves. Wiped it on, left for about 5 minutes and rinse. Stunning results. Gave the other half of my 500g pack to a mate and he did the same.

I know this probably won't help you but may be useful for those in the Med. Try asking flotilla lead boats, they generally have buckets of the stuff on board and will give some away for a beer or two!
