Hi everyone,

We've lived aboard our Bavaria 38 Ocean for two years. Circumnavigated the UK ( Caledonian Canal) and been to the Baltic. This year we intend to overwinter in Brittany.

Could we please have recommendations for Marinas and Trustworthy boatyards.

We have a large family and need good access to transport links for the UK

Also price estimates for a sub 12m yacht

Thanks in advance

Roscoff Marina is even closer to the ferries! and not overwhelming
We kept our 13m yacht there in the water during winter of 2013 and it was very convenient, just 10min walk to the Brittany Ferry terminal (to Portsmouth or Plymouth), and easy to come over from UK with a car to tour around locally and return having stocked up with excellent local wine & foods...

The marina is very sheltered from any SW Atlantic storms that can hit Brest and S Brittany. There are good toilet facilities on the pontoons, and new showers/toilets in the new main building completed in 2014. Small snack bar in marina has fresh bread every morning. Healthy 20 min walk into town without a car (I don't think the little bus runs around in the winter). Town is charming, but very quiet out of season. Local train can take you down to Morlaix and then main line beyond.

Very helpful staff : Brigitte in the office - email : brigitte.jousselin@morlaix.cci.fr tel: +33 (0) 2 98 79 79 49

Excellent Boatyard run by M. Yvin, has hardstanding adjacent to the marina - see http://chantiernavalyvin.fr/
We had excellent service from him with liftout/antifouling in March 2014 Highly recommended.

Adam,

Go to http://www.jimbsail.info/tidal-europe/channel/channel-isles-france and you'll find descriptions of many suitable wintering locations. Work west through the site pages, then south.

Where known, links to web sites are given, and guides to transport links to UK.

Best yacht support facilities are around Cherbourg, Brest, La Trinite and Lorient. Being cities, they're also good bets for transport links and winter activities.

I would replace La Trinité with Port La Forêt.

Adam,
Another vote for Roscoff, very similar staff attitude to Portland, [I wintered there 2013-5} - Portland that is.
Excellent communication too and the public services work and connect sensibly.

I berth in S Brittany but for what you require I would also recommend Roscoff. Great facilities in the marina - the Casino supermarket is a 2km walk / cycle.

Which half of the UK did you circumnavigate?
