Overnight berths Solent area

Heading south from the Humber to Plymouth next month. Any suggestions for overnight visitor berths or quiet anchorages in the Solent area please?

Newton creek is probably the best mid silent achorage, or there are a few permanent bouys if you prefer

Cowes and Yarmouth would be the least distance/time "off route", but you could also consider Portsmouth (fuel at Premier Gosport Marina) and Lymington (fuel available in both marinas).

Lymington is a lovely market town (regularly voted the nicest coastal town in Britain), fuel is amongst the cheapest in the Solent, and it's not out of your way. Stop off at Newtown Creek on the way, as it's the best anchorage in the area, except on sunny weekends when it can be very busy.

Langston Harbour - lots of space shelter from any direction.
Portsmouth Harbour - endless choice
Bembridge walk ashore pontoons at St Helens Duver or dry out on the beach Bembridge side
Seaview - anchorage or buoys
Ryde harbour (dries)
Wootton Creek - visitor buoys off Royal Victoria YC
Hill head harbour - dries
Osborne Bay - Anchorage
Cowes Roads - Buoys
Cowes - East & Yacht Haven - upriver Island Harbour Marina & Folly Inn
Hamble - Point, Port, Mercury (all MDL); Universal; Deacons; Swanwick (Premier); Cabin; Foulkes; Eastlands
Netley Shore - Anchorage
Ashlett Creek - the other Jolly Sailor - Dries (lots more places further up Soton Water, e.g Hythe Marine)
Beaulieu River - You will pay to fart up there
Newtown Creek - Buoys; Anchoring is voluntary payment
Lymington - Yacht Haven, Berthon Marinas; Buoys; Town Quay
Yarmouth - Walk ashore & isolated pontoons (1/2 price but no leccy)
Key haven - buoys or Anchorage dries in places
Cowell Bay - Anchorage
Alum Bay - Anchorage

For these anchorages review the wind direction and seek shelter from the prevailing wind for a peaceful night.

If you are just passing through then the obvious places to stop are Cowes, Hamble, Lymington and Yarmouth. For a 40' boat reckon on ~ £45 - 50 / night in a marina.
