I was in the saloon of a Fairline Squadron 66. Yes I know, I know, it's a MoBo,I'm sorry. This is Fairline's latest thing and it's very plush indeed.

A guy buttonholed one of the sales staff and questioned the fact that the furnishings are freestanding. "Won't they move about at sea?" he asked. "It's very unlikely that a boat like this would be at sea in anything over a F4" says our Fairline man.

Now there's a thing. You spend all that money and get guaranteed weather.

Now I've seen these big MoBo's in the med and such like places and the winds got up and they've got the same conditions as everyone else. It can change in an instant. So it's interesting that a major manufacturers staff should be so glib, isn't it?

Its a bit like some of the brochures for new boats.

Have a look at the pics, especially the saloon and cabin shots - They all seem to have vases/fruit bowls/ornaments/glasses placed neatly around the boat.

I always look carefully at brochures to see what the latest in-harbour "Feung-sway" should be, and what would be the first thing to break!

Bit sad really!!!

[/ QUOTE ]You should see my boat when SHMO is on-board! but everything is stowed before we sail - only takes SHMO about 5 minutes while I refill the fresh water tank /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.
SHMO can go through 45gallons of water on an overnight stopover /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif - I've taken to carrying an "emergency reserve" of 12 gallons of water for even a weekend away.

Take her sailing in Greece!

I cured the family of "over-reliance" on water while out there for a fortnight!

Water is scarce at most of the palces we visited, if it was there it was only switched on for an hour or two, and then there would be 1 hose per 10 boats.

I kept repeating warnings of rinsing/doing of teeth with tap on, long showers etc, so I let it run out! We were without domestic water for 3 days, had to wash in sea etc!
now they are paranoid about wasting water.

Mind you, it was a bit of a gamble!

Badly trained salesperson.

The correct answer is "This is only sample furniture, Madam, from our extensive range of options and so is not fixed. We find that most of our customers prefer to have their interior designer come down regularly during the build process, and specify fixtures, finishes and furnishings on a bespoke basis. Of course, if you don't have a designer, we can suggest one or two very good people."

Witnessed off Mallorca

My friends Trader style TSDY (not quite a 66, but in the 50's)was on passage from Alcudia to La Manga.

It was barely a F4 but as we rounded the headland the slop was enough to send the TV, Satelite and saloon chairs flying.

Needless to say it had never been out in anything like that, not in his ownership anyway.

Your final paragraph sums up my thoughts precisely.

........ and this will be the same salesman who says to the first time mobo buyer when questioned about taking it to sea, "you drive it just like a car, Sir. Look it even has a stearing wheel just like your BMW"
