I do not quite understand what you mean, The distance apart of the clamps I understand, the securing hook I don't. I have an Evinrude 3.3 handy if you want me to take a measurement from it.

The "hook" is presumably inner face of the aft part of the transom clamp, so the answer would equate to a maximum transom thickness.

In that case, the clamp screw centres are 95mm (width apart) The throat of the clamps (maximum clamp thickness) is 65 mm. hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply's, I probably did not explain myself very well. I was trying to describe the distance between the back face of the OB where it sits against the transom and the front face of the clamps that tighten against the inside of the transom. 65mm does not seem a lot.

I have just checked it again, 65mm it is, sorry! remember, this is just my particular engine, although I cannot see a small engine being much more, it is over 2 inches in old money, an extra 2 inches is a lot!

What size of OB? 65mm is over 2½" thick!

They vary I thnk you will find. Both in the minimum thickness they will clamp onto and the maximun they will accomodate.

My Seagulls will close down to about 1cm but they dont fit on anything thicker than 5cm

My Evinrude wont close down even as low as 2 cm ( about 3cm minimum I think) but I am pretty sure it will fit something a good bit more than 5 cm. 6.5cm I guess if Davy S's opens to 6.5

I reckon if you aim for around 4 or 4.5 cm anything will fit.

for my 3.3 Hp evinrude on my tender i installed some sacrificial plywood pads inside and outside and ended up at about 32 mm thickness.
Original transom was 10 mm plus a bonded permanent pad of 10 mm then a 6 mm replaceable bare wood pad inside and out.)
On my Trailer Sailer with 15 Hp the transom is 55 mm thick.
Cheers
