Use any oil that carries TCW3 certification

If this is new to you engine run a 50:1 premix until you have confirmed that the VRO is working OK

The original VRO s were a bit of a pain and often converted to run on premix.
Later VRO2 or OMS are better.

For all questions on Johnson and Evinrudes go to https://forums.iboats.com/forum/engine-repair-and-maintenance/johnson-evinrude-outboards

Always quote the model number with any questions

Hi Vic thanks very much for the answer it is all that I thought I needed. I've had the engine for two years but it hasn't had a lot of use, the vro has been ok so far so I will have to watch out for failure, are there any signs of failure that I should look out for, once again thank you for your help. Kieron

The only difference is the additives, in a semi synthetic oil some of the additives are mineral derived and others are synthesised.
