I have to walk about a quarter of a mile over a field to my dinghy carrying my seagull outboard. I've been trying to come up with ideas for a wheeled carrier - must be cheap! Any ideas?
A yamaha 2hp is a much better idea!
The proper wheeled device for carrying a seagull over fields is a series one landrover.
Seriously though, saw a homemade sacktruck affair which took the o/b plus a load of kit. You'll want biggish wheels on it, but I suppose it has to go in a car?
It depends on how rough the field is, have you considered an A frame travois type thing to drag? If it's smooth enough wheels will be better though, something like that ebay thing but with dingy launch trolley wheels on?
A striped jersey and a kitbag on the other shoulder to balance it and carry it by the drive shaft tube just like the picture provided ....
Or consider getting a junked "stroller" pushchair - always being thrown in the dump. If you use some ropes or webbing to hold the engine, the whole lot can fold away when not in use . Just dont melt it with the exhaust.
What I use for human-towed outboard transport is a £15 mild steel welded and solid sack barrow. Biggish wheels, stable and cheap.
Hi I have exactly the same issue with my seagul and use a golf trolley which is unmodified. It suits the purpose very well as they tend to come with webbing straps.
You can get them from the dump for a couple of quid if you are patient.
Old Porters trolley with bigger diameter wheels.
Suitcase trolley with bigger diameter wheels.
Seagull is light and if its the short shaft version the trolley doesn't have to be too high. We regularly carry our 2hp Mariner on our suitcase trolley, now that most suitcases are with integral wheels. We even kept back a wheeled frame from a broken suitcase for water carrier etc.
I use a wheelbarrow.
The yard has a load of old wheelbarrows that we use for carting our gear from carpark tp slipway etc.
A wheelbarrow is ideally suited to uneven ground, you do need a pneumatic tyred wheel though.
