Have a 2.5hp outboard for the tender and just trying to work out best way to stow onboard.

No pushpit rails as such, just single stations on the port and starboard aft quarters with wire up to the next stantion along so the conventional brackets will not fit.

Thought about making a dedicated bracket in the wet gear locker to clamp it onto while not in use.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

How deep is your locker? On mine there is a removal section in the locker floor. A wooden bracket was fixed to the locker floor so that the outboard could be stowed upright with the shaft down through the floor.

While we have a pad on the pushpit, most of the time the outboard is clamped upright out of sight and dry in the stern locker. Our boat has two stern lockers with a gas locker in between. I bolted an upright hardwood plank (a short offcut of decking) to the vertical separating bulkhead below the side of the gas locker, the outboard leg goes down under the gas locker so very little locker space is lost. However on our boat (Finngulf) the stern lockers are deep enough to stand up in. I also bought a load of small cheap ss. cleats from Screwfix and fitted them around the locker sides to retain warps, fender lanyards, hose etc. so that it is only necessary to dive for bulky items like spare fuel or water containers.

You dont say if it is a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke. Very important with a 4 stroke that it is either kept upright or only laid down as indicated in the manual.

Only consideration with a 2 stroke is that the power head stays a bit higher than the lower unit to avoid the posibility of any water not drained from the leg finding its way into the engine via the exhaust.

Mine, 2 stroke Seagull, just goes in the cockpit locker once all the water has drained.

On my last boat I used to carry the dinghy outboard on a raise and lower bracket on the transon, it was then handy as a standby if the diesel went t1ts up and was much easier to transfer to the dinghy
