Hi all. I am thinking of downsizing in the next year or 2 (from an old Princess 37 which I currently live on to something smaller, nippier and cheaper for fishing...). I see a lot of boats in the 18ft area that have up to 115hp outboards, but many others in the same size/style/weight that only have 50's. I am aware of the arguements that more hp means easier planing at lower revs, more fun etc, but what are the servicing issues? How much more expensive is it to carry out a basic, planned annual service for a 115 compared to a 50?
This then leads onto... if a 50 has to work much harder does it wear everything out far quicker?
I probably haven't phrased this as well as I might have, but it's been a long day and I'm in a bit of a rush, however I hope you get the drift. I'm trying to leave the fuel economy side out of the equation for the minute, thats another issue for another day, and I'm giving myself at least a year to work out what boat/engine style I want next, I'm just using the 18ft 'fast fisher' style as an example, so I'm working on one aspect at a time.
Thanks,
Simon
