i'm sick and tired of the outboards being unreliable. Right now my 15 is misfiring at low revs. I've cleaned the carb and replaced the spark plugs, The 5 is being quite good but that spluttered today.

I need a mechanic - soton area - that doesn't need 6 months to do the job and will be available when i want to take the engine in.

Recommendations?

While you are waiting...drain the carb bowl by un doing the drain screw a few turns....pump the crap out the primer bulb on the fuel line...give her a try. Likely it needs a carb clean, but if you not up for that, this is worth a try.

I had very good service from Emsworth outboards based at marina there having carried out carb cleaning etc following guidance from others without success so if cleaning doesn't work maybe another source for work if others mentioned not available We diagnosed compression issues which was a bit too much for me In time I had to fix. Just drove down with OB after initial call and they worked through very well with me I thought.
As an aside I don't know if anyone on this forum has tried seafoam in a spraycan or other sprays to unblock carbon build up btw?

I took the carb off and took it to bits - cleaned everything. No success. Still lumpy /firing on 1/ until at speed then ok.
Great engine gets on the plane with 2 adults 2 kids and a Labrador. But annoying.

This sounds like a blocked idle jet. As you open the throttle the main venturi and jet takes over so the engine them runs fine.

Normally a quite small passage / drilling from the fuel bowl, with a small grain of crud blocking it, possibly the size of a grain of sugar. They often exit into the main venturi as a small port. Air airline is ideal to clear them out, or a ultrasonic cleaner.

+1 for ultrasonic carb cleaning. My Merc 75 always coughed at lower speeds. Then I filled the carbs with saltwater when I rashly went out to see the Round Island race in a F5 in a 19ft Fletcher...

Once cleaned the engine ran perfectly with no hiccups at all!
