I am about to replace the impeller, wear cup and plate plus the gaskets around them on a Mercury 5hp 2-stroke. Should the gaskets either side of the wear plate have any sealant added during assembly? If so, what?
Also, should I use a thread lock type unguent for the two gearbox retaining bolts?

Thanks in advance!

I sometimes smear the gaskets with a film of grease to make removal easier otherwise no sealant. I don't use thread lock on the bolts, again for me a smear of grease to make sure or reduce corrosion between aluminium and stainless. Don't over tighten the bolts as they are only into aluminium and threads can be stripped easily.

Thanks for that.
