Hi Guys,

I have an old avon seasport 4.65 with a 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke.
When at slow speed she has trouble with steering (like parking) while other same size tenders you can turn on the spot this one doesnt want to move were you want it to go.

Now the cavity plate is about 1.5-2 inch under the keel , but can this cause a difficulty in steering at low speed.

Any advise welcome,

Best regards,

Mani

Welcome. The RIB I have wanders about at low speed, I think that is normal. How much play is in your steering? Does the engine turn the same amount in each direction?

Could be a couple of things. Firstly the AVP (anti-ventilation plate) should be level or even just above the keel for maximum efficiency. Secondly you might find steering difficult and inaccurate if the engine is trimmed in or out too much.
