I'm going to have a look at an Orkadian 20 this week. It's got a Honda 75hp four stroke hanging on the back. Any thoughts about fuel consumption, and also whether other members have trouble getting petrol when they're visiting marinas?

Don't know how far you are planning to go on a regular basis but our Merry Fisher 695 with a 175hp on the back will do about 0.9 NM / L at cruising speed.. So call it 30NM on 40L (with about 5 NM reserve on that calculation).. I typically drop in 40L (four 10L cans) from the local petrol station each time I go to the boat, most times I don't use that much but some days I use more.. Always plenty in the tank though..

You might do slightly better on consumption.. So get yourself two 20L or four 10L fuel cans and just keep it loaded,if you do a long trip and if the marina has no petrol take a walk to the nearest petrol station with whoever you have with you and grab some..

Most outboards squeeze about 12 HP out of each gallon of petrol, diesels about 20hp/gal.

Have look here , surprising how efficient the new 2 strokes are.

Thanks to all for your thoughts - it's all quite different from running my present engine - a 1GM10 in my yacht - all of 9hp. I didn't go for the Orkadian - nice looking boat but 'bijou' - too small if you hope to spend a night on it! I'm too old for the gymnastics required.
