I'm looking to fit an outboard bracket to the transon of my Fairline Targa
and I'm looking for some advice. The davits which came with the boat
look to be bolted directly through the top of the transom with only nut/washers
on the inside. I was looking to do the same with the outboard bracket (max 30 kg
to support), but need to mount this vertically. Is this good enough to just bolt
through with nut/washers or do I need an additional plate (wood/metal) on the
inside to spread the load from the 4/6 bolts ?

Any do's/don'ts when it comes to drilling holes through gel coat ? (Should I leave
this to a professional ?)

Anyone else fitted an outboard bracket to their transoms ?

Any advice would be gratefully received !!

Welcome Andy ,I have a Targa 31 and last year fitted a outboard bracket to the back. No problem drilling holes into fibre glass but the its not that thick so i suggest some support behind , i used an oak chopping board ,nice and thick just about the right size, only problem is getting down behind to attached bolts, my mate had to lay on his back on top of the engines with his head at some strange angle while i sat on the bathing platform with the spanner.

Oooer! how did you resist dropping something on his Nuts to make his head rise up quickly?

I must be very fortunate. When I pulled the seat back away (on clips) there
are several large cut outs which gives me clear access and actually makes it
quite a civilized job. Thanks for the advice about fitting some support on the
inside.
