Outboard Engine lifting straps

I have a tohatsu 9.8 outboard for our dinghy and will soon fit a davit/crane to ease the moving of it from our yacht to the dinghy. I would have thought that buying lift straps/harness would have been straightforward, but there appear to be many stories of folk who could not get the harness to fit their outboard, and there are other harnesses that I have seen that look very insecure. I am keen not to drop our outboard in the drink, so I would be grateful for advice about supplier, or how to do it DIY. Many thanks

Made my own, albeit for a smaller engine just using a length of tape/webbing forming two loops around the powerhead and joining the ends with a water-knot.

I've stopped using webbing. I just use suitable sized 3 strand rope, easier to tie knots in or even splice if you want it to look pretty. Webbing needs to either be stitched or knotted and knots do not look neat when tied in webbing.

I also made my own
Note stitching at the top, white strap all one length, Yellow yoke (with clip) keeps front and back loop from spreading apart. You could also put in a bottom yoke if you feel it's necessary.

I made ours out of 25mm webbing. One fixed loop round the front end of the engine, one adjustable loop with a clip buckle round the back end, joined by a short piece of webbing which is also the lifting point. Been using it now for about 5 years with no signs of wear.

We made our own incorporated in to a cover. The cover stops the straps slipping. We have the same set up on our Tohatsu 9.8 and Yamaha enduro 15.
