Has anyone any suggestions how to repair the outboard cover for my Yamaha F4?

I tried polyester glassfibre but it doesn't bond to the plastic. The cover is broken in several places and has some bits missing which I was hoping to fill with the glassfibre.

It was stolen a few years ago and used to rob a load of boats. By the time I got it back from the police it was quite badly broken. At the moment I have it imaginatively repaired with tape, but a more permanent repair would be nice.

What about those car plastic bumper repair kits,,?

If you cleaned it thoroughly and polyester resin did not adhere I doubt if you will find anything that will

If it was my Yamaha 2 HP outboard, with a cover of some kind of PE plastic, I'd be tempted to try 'plastic welding' with a soldering iron and some filler from a plastic basin or something. Seen it done on Youtube.

Polyester does not stick to many plastics and in fact will melt some.

I would tape the parts together on the outside ... then add strips of strong self adhesive tape at intervals across the joints inside, then use Polyurethane Glue eased into the joints and smeared on the inside. This glue foams and expands .. so the tape needs to hold well. Blocking the whole is maybe a good idea.

Leave it for overnight. Remove the exterior tape .. sand and paint.

Is there a particular glue I should be looking for?

Is this the same plastic as used in car bumpers? It's certainly not having any of the polyester resin, that fell straight off

Plastic welding can be done using plastic milk bottles as the filler rod.

MEK Fluid is the Plastic Weld for plastic models .... but may not work on Outboard Cover ....

Modelers trick is to dissolve scrap plastic sprue in fluid to create a paste ... but it goes off quickly ...
