out of date flares in france

I have been to France about 6 times this year and I do not carry out of date flares.

Places like Granville like to stop you .

I was involved in firing off about 60 out of date flares a few weeks ago: rockets , hh, smokes.oldest dated 12/09

of 15 rockets 2 failed!!

I think of 20 hh 2 failed(the more expensive type)

I know this is unusual but I thought I would mention it to point it out the failure rate in exp flares, but acknowledge that we didn,t let off 60 in date to compare!!

BLACK PEARL

What is the failure rate for similar in-date flares?

Hiya toady, well I've been stopped a few times by the Maritime Guardia Civil for safety and passport checks, but I am totally unbothered whether you believe me or not.

I've got quite a lot of in date pyrotechnics too!!

Douanes

Ive Been stopped twice By Douanes a good few years ago . Once in the car with 8 Service batteries . They took 2 for testing, tested them to destruction , got receipts did not get batteries back Guess they looked for compartments. I had taken them home to charge during the few months back in england.

The second time against a quay at low water , St Malo, the front lockers were painted with white paint which was starting to turn to dust ... So gUess what they decided to fetch dogs.
2 Douanes, 2 dogs , 1 v small dingy hilarity ensued . The one rowing kept missing the water and ended up in the bottom of the dink, he was not amused at our good mood! The other joined in our humor, the dogs ran riot and wagged there tails everywhere when they didnt find anything . The Douanes took some paint dust to test . A day later passports back They had a drink with us, More hilarity about the rower ,even he laughed then . Only photocopies of docs, on us at the time , no fines !

Edit: No in date flares, but they did not look and was .. long time ago loads of law changes since then.

planning on going next week and havent got any up to date flares - nor do I intend to buy any. so the question is - how real is the old flares problem in france?

how likely is the boat to get searched? am I likely to be asked? all assuming of course that I have the correct docs which I will have. and the raft is in date etc.

is it a bit like vat documents - theoretically a problem but not in reality? or are they being French and difficult?

I don't know about France but in US if flares are expired cost guard will give you fine with out thinking.
