Hi,

I have two out hauls on the Beaulieu river with dingies on. The ropes after a very short time get covered with weed Has anyone any suggestions as to how to stop this or at least clean them as I bring the boat in?

big pair of marigolds! although the more robust rubber gloves might be a better bet. No way to stop the weed, only solution is a method of coping with it.

experiment.

We keep reading about old sea dogs mixing chili powder in with paint to make anti foul.

We know that nylon rope absorbs salt and other solids, hence it goes stiff with age.

et voilà, heat pan of water with a cup of chili mixed in, add rope, boil dry (not boil per se, but evaporate off all water ).

My reckoning is, the chili will remain impregnated in the rope and stop weed growing on it. I have absolutely no idea if this will work, but if you try please advise of your results, I might be onto something, I could even market the new wonder product and mark it up by 10,000 %.

Can't you arrange it so that the outhauls come home through a pair of scrubbing brushes, face to face?

If you pull the boat in from the seaward side of the pulley block, don't most of the little beings get crushed or scraped off as the rope passes through?

On the other hand perhaps I should just say, "Lucky B's got an out haul".
