Replaced out-drive bellows on our DP-G drives today. Christ, what a ball-breaker!

Just for anyone else.... make up a little trolley out of timber and put small wheels on the bottom, makes the job a LOT easier.
Also, as GaryO showed, to get the pins out that hold the out-drive to the transom shield, make up your own puller using threaded bar, some nuts / washers and the weight from a slide hammer - they popped out very easily!

Good news is that the UJ's were totally dry / no rust etc....

Replaced the bearing taps for the steering helmet as the old ones had dodgy threads in the holes used for pushing the tap out. We had to tap in a new thread and decided it'd be best to just place them. For good measure replaced all the allen bolts etc... all shiny now :D

Next year i'll just fly VolvoPaul over to Ireland, I think.

No , you've proved yourself now get on with it man.

I did them once on the DPE's.

Never again - it took a few weeks for me to be able to walk normally afterwards.

It didn't help that I broke my spine a few years ago... today I got plenty of reminders that I do have a damaged back!

The DP-E's I used to just split the out-drive, much easier IMHO. I never had any issues doing this (think there's 1 O-Ring to replace, and don't lose the shim) On the flip side, at least by removing pins etc. every 2/3 years it means things won't seize up.

Still at least you know exactly what needs to be done next year..and the year after that and the one after that.
:):):)

It wasn't a new task for me, however it was the first time I had to remove the whole out-drive. I've lost count of the amount of times i've changed bellows on DP-E drives, but we split the upper end.

Honestly, I prefer removing the whole out-drive as you are replacing split-pins / refreshing pins etc. so you can clean everything out and you know they won't be seized next time.

In fairness, the DP-G wasn't as heavy as expected, 2 of us were able to move them around with ease. The trolley was a god-send and cost about €10 to make up!
