I am sure many people on these forums has been to Scotland We had only been about twice and I am amazed at how lovely it is and in particular how good the boating can be on Loch Lomond

Very true! Well worth visiting the West Highlands and the Islands. You can pay a company a relatively modest sum to take you from Oban ( easy to get to by train) to Fishnish Mull then a boat trip to Iona, Staffa and/or Lunga. You will see lots of sea birds including puffins, dolphins and maybe basking sharks. They even take you back to Oban!

Well when I bought it it was very cheap as it was way before things went mental now you might find a second hand one similar on Facebook market place for perhaps £6000. A new 4.7 with trailer and outboard etc around about £22,000 but prices and availability are nuts at the moment. Have a look on the Excell Ribs website.
The little Honwave T38ie 3 is only £1,350 to buy all up about £3,500 with outboard etc

I paid £950 for my last boat in 1996, a 17' Check Marine Pilot 520 Dory powered by a 35hp Suzuki outboard, complete with a trailer, prices have gone up a bit since then!

Prices were ok before the Pandemic and then they went mental. I think they are starting to stabilise a little maybe

Agreed Dennis, rib prices falling now.
I sold Zoom recently and now have an Excel 520 with aluminium hull and old 75 Mercury 4 stroke, same as I had on HP1.
I'll run the engine for a season to check reliability but did 110 miles at the Easter iow trip so the basics are ok.
New timing belt, thermostat, plugs, impeller kit and a repeat of oil changes now in hand. Ready for Brixham! See you there....

yup see you there looking forward to seeing the 5.2 as I have the urge for that one or the smaller 4.7 would buy The boat and seats etc and source a second hand 60 or 70 for it….. Might even go retro and put a 2 stroke on it. ??

The Honwave 38 with air floor or 40 with aluminium floor I can get in Germany for about €1700 = £1500 both are about the same price, wife likes the look of them, and the price didn't shock her too much.
Soooo, next questions, what size of engine to not exceed 10kn as that is the limit we can have here without a Belgian vaarbewijs, I can have up to 15m and not able to exceed 20km/h, there is a weight limit too but it is in the 10s of tonnes.

Loving all these videos and so is my wife, she is feeling most jealous
Loch Awe, beautiful place, and another loch where we used to tow our boat to when we kept it on Loch Fyne. Fishing on Loch Awe was not so good only ever caught one trout in all our trips.
We were there in October/November and the weather was just about perfect, there were people out canoeing on the loch then too.
Was this the castle you were looking for? it is on a spit of land that can become an island when the water rises just a foot or so.

Just watched the latest episode, my father was born in Luss Rd not too far from where you were.
Just finished watching the episode on Loch Awe, you were so close to the castle, almost made it
The big hotel is within sight of the castle.
We stopped at another hotel not far from there and had a wonderful meal there and then carried on to Oban, we didn't stop at Loch Etive as one time before I managed to time the tide right and was able to show my wife the Falls of Lora at Connel Ferry ( Falls of Lora - Wikipedia ) In February we drove up to the head of Loch Etive, that is where we seen the white water canoeing.
Last October we went through Oban and then to Clachan Bridge - The Bridge over the Atlantic,

Well I used the Disco in Scotland for about for about 400 miles total on various trips and Just travelled for 8.5 hrs and 440 miles loaded to the hilt towing the boat home and the Old Disco did not miss a beat. Either my squirts of WD40 on the Turbo Actuator Rod sorted it or it is Magic..... Pleased to have got home with no issues however
