Our search for our next boat - Trawler Yacht style semi displacement

Quite a change in direction but follow your thinking.
From that list it would be the Corvette for me if there was one to be found.
I would agree entirely with superheat6k on handling - not something to be concerned about. In fact, size and handling would not be high on my list of negatives because for most boats because you quickly get used to what you have. If you go for a boat with outdrives have eyes wide open to maintenance requirements and in particular check that previous owners have done what they should.

I run the Corvette Motorboat Association and no one is selling much of anything presently. Karl Farrant is the best broker to check out for Corvettes, but he generally only takes on more recent 320s, and presently has nothing listed.

From your - VEs they are a doddle to handle after a few hours practice.
Thanks @superheat6k - we were in correspondence last year as you had offered to take me and the wife out for a run on one - due to happen then your engine blew , glad you got that all sorted and the suggestion about insurance proved useful(y).

I have spotted a couple of nice 320's down in Hythe and one on the hard in Lymington being refurbed, not for sale obvs but when you get close up they do look really nice. Definitely keeping my eye out for one - there was a 320 sold from Southampton a month or two back but it was above budget at £120k:(

Cheers,

TC

Hi Greg, yes - its been an interesting "trawl" (pun intended) through all the different options  . As much as anything I think the use case has changed slightly, from possible West Coast Scotland location with aspirations to do a lot of overnighting to a Solent location with more day boat use and some overnights.

Also a bit more interested in something newer that needs slightly less maintenance/refurb than some of the older trawlers we were looking at so I can spend more time on the water.

Point taken about handling from yourself and Superheat, think I need to get out onto a few of my options over the next month or two and actually see how it works/feels in the flesh.

Defo preference for shafts on larger boats over outdrives, but O/B's on the MF don't bother me at all.

Cheers,

TC

The offer for a ride out stands.

So just an update, as we have now completed our move down to the Solent and have a mooring the search has escalated :)

Have found a decent Corvette 32 which we are sea trialling on Thursday. If all goes well then recommendations sought for good marine surveyor in Solent area.

Bit unusual in that it is running Hino diesels, so if anyone knows a marine engineer familiar with these that would be a bonus(y)

So have circled back to the trawler theme lol

Cheers,

TC

Good choice I think - obviously not quite a Hardy but not bad nonetheless ! ?

A good combination used by several forumites is Nick Vass as surveyor and volvopaul of this parish to do the engines (they often work together). Okay, they aren’t Volvo engines but Paul knows his onions and he looked at the Perkins on our Hardy when we were buying. Worth speaking to him to see if he can help.

So, survey booked for a couple of weeks time......... See what that brings forth.

Initial sea trial re enforced what an easy boat they are to handle and walk around on(y)

Trawling is the best lifestyle, don’t worry about these hooligans on their planing boats. Just a bunch of flash Harrys??
By chance I stumbled on a trawler fest the other day. All Grand Banks. Everyone looked happy and content in their skin, even if there was an awful lot of skin......

That would have been at Porquerolles, "Amicale Grand Banks Méditérranée". Had some good times with them over the last 20 years from Corsica to Barcelona. Happy group for sure. They certainly know how to negotiate group berthing discounts, some years for free
I couldn't make it this year as I ran out of Schengen days & had to come home on Sunday.

Potentially the Corvette gives the best of both worlds, was very relaxed bumbling down Chi harbour at 8kn but would cruise at 16kn and reach 20kn if you owned an oil field ?

Cheers TC

Yes, absolutely right. We went to park next to a Grand Banks and the owner told us they were all reserved. Of course not all the spaces ever got used and some that did stayed empty for two days! On the plus side, they had a cat on board, if my dog had to endure being next to a cat for three days, well it could have been mayhem ???

One other point that shows that trawlers are for the discerning person. Although they ended up with a little fleet of Grand Banks and were all in a party mood and the boats were were all decorated with bunting, they were also the quietest people on the quay!
They were all very nice people who just enjoyed each other’s company ??

Well, got there in the end.

Corvette didn't work out, just to much work needed on it unfortunately.

So............ We have just bought a Benetteau Antares 9.80 :p

Flybridge with decent walkaround deck, good engine access, (better than the Corvette), and nice interior,

Downside is no side door and ladder to fly rather than steps but everything has some compromises,

Nice spec'd boat, low hours and really clean, happy at slower speeds but will cruise at 20kn as well.

So 2 years later nearly and we complete the journey almost where we started (one of earliest viewings was Prestige 36)

Cheers

Yep, hoping to get it back to our berth next week sometime then will add some pics. Also hope to use it a bit over winter to get familiar with it and "personalise" :) ready for next spring/summer.

Cheers,

TC
Congratulations on the new vessel. I can't believe you beat me to it ?☹️?.

Lol, I reckon there are beginning to be a few more boats available though and if you can move quickly at not too silly prices, our one as an example was pretty much immaculate for its age and had a really high spec once you looked closely.

Nice Aquador 32c came up today in Haslar and an older style MF925 in Hamble. The Aquador would have been of serious interest if we hadn't bought this one.

Cheers
