Our boat speed paddlewheel mystery

Thanks everyone. I've spoken with the engineer that installed the unit 18 months ago and he's also at a bit of a loss. Can't be the magnet, doesn't appear to be anything up with the wiring, log seems to be correctly inserted etc. As the transducer is still under warranty, he's going to lend me a new one to try out this weekend. I shall report back!

I had a similar sounding issue. In the end I found a very slight bend in the axle. Not enough to prevent it spinning freely when lifted out but enough to create a problem underwater. It was probably hit by a log or similar. A replacement axle fixed it.

For those that kindly commented or simply wondered what the outcome of this was, our local electrical chap did indeed lend me a new unit which when fitted, worked perfectly right away. The whole thing remains a complete mystery to both me and the installer.

Replaced under warranty - will probably never establish what the problem was as he thought they'd likely just bin it rather than test.
