For anyone considering spending some time at the RNSYC:

Dredging will be carried out in the Montgomery dock this week.
The mooring buoys well be re-laid next Mon/Tue (17-18 Jun).

So, from the middle of next week, you will need to have a looooooooooooooooooong mooring line ready or risk Robert's scorn/ridicule.

Forewarned is forearmed

Thanks,I am sitting there now, listening to the rain pattering on deck. I will be out of here asap, especially because R says the minimum price is now e27 a night, which is ludicrous for 24' in a half empty dock. But he is saying its negotiable,or we will come to an arrangement acceptable to both,or some such. I really hope he likes haggling..
Edit: check the price before putting in to Oostende,to avoid shocks to the system

Food in the RNSYC has always been expensive, its the well to do locals eat

Still only two bucks for a beer though ;)
The Ramsgate ferries are tied up,going rusty already, and all the chip stalls are shut. Any of you blokes ever put in to Zeebrugge? Looks interesting at least?

There is nothing in Zeebrugge to see, go past ASAP. Also avoid Vlissengen Hbr ( expensive they charge for everything ) lock in & go to the VVW in the canal stbd side

Very useful thanks for posting. Reminds me of the entry for Nieuwpoort,'the town centre is a long way,and there is nothing to see when you get there'.
Now passage planning for a different country!

You can be in the beautiful town of middelburg in 6hrs from Ostende :-)

We have often visited Blankenberge rather than anywhere else on the Belgian coast. It is 90nm pontoon to pontoon for us so has often been the start or end of our holidays. Sheltered marina(s) with various yacht clubs all vying for your business. Chandlery, easily accessible fuel berth, moor next to the town. Decent market too. Beaches, bars, restaurants a plenty and 'shopping' if that's your thing. Also right by the Kusttram stops if you want to go elsewhere up or down the coast and not far to walk to the railway station if you fancy a visit to Bruges or even Brussels should the weather do its usual summer trick . We have usually gone to the main marina area (rather than to port to the former fish dock) and used the VNZ moorings their clubhouse and showers are over the road but that's no problem.

Blankenberge is always good.
Can second the VNZ clubhouse/facilities.

Sailorman is correct but there is the sea lock and access to the canal to Brugge.
At the to end of the canal you will find the Brugge Zail Yacht Club.
Mooring charge the other year €1.00/m.
A freindly club
A pleasant walk into Brugge town
Small shops near by.

OR4751 when you head for Blankenburge what's your route to miss the Sunk?

We've always used the sunk as a waypoint, ship directions are predictable and it's easy to keep out of their way. We don't get too close mind, 200m. Flipping weird seeing a roundabout in the middle is the sea. Then it's 120 degrees course and let the tides do their worst and best, keeping an eye on the set to make sure we arrive up tide. We got it wrong once and crawled along at two knots in our little cat. Miserable 3 hours :(
