I have tried various routes but have never been really sure where we stand with the rotational systems.

We tend to just cross it on our direct course, and then if the traffic is heavy, just take a look at the various 'exit/entry routes' and make sure we are doing the right thing! (only 2 or 3 times that I can remember needing to do that)

we carry a 30m length of 14 m/m anchotplait, others cobble up what they have o/b. you might get along side or raft up

IMHO there are much nicer places to stay in Ostend that involve a lock but don't involve long lines, huge swell, staying in a fish gutting dock and Robert's unique brand of helpfulness. But for those who love Robert there's no where else.
