Ostar 2013

Seems to be getting very little exposure on here.

P'rhaps peeps hereabouts are more interested in the Mini-Jester to old Baltimore, due to start in a couple of weeks' time. Er, there was a scurrilous rumour around that the Royal Western YC sought to 'take over' the Jester non-race structure, with its non-rules, non-hierarchy, non-commercial sponsorship, and its growing world-wide reputation for doing it simple. I do believe the jury returned a verdict on that notion....

I am. Quite interesting. Even those with problems, then I know more of those than the trouble free participants.

The Oceanis 351 is doing well for a AWB. Having sailed from the States for the start.

I think Keith in his Najad wil be miffed that his new main pulled out of the track and having returned to fit the old one this has now shredded . Shows how different the Northern Ostar route is from the southern down wind he has followed in his previous 10 ,crossings.

I am, went down to QAB to see start. Nasty weather to set off in, amazing percentage of retirees and damaged boats!Wonder how they'll deal with the Atlantic weather coming across next week?

The good thing about a heavy weather start is it sorts out problems before you are too far from a port for repair. Most problems will have been apparent by now. However the big seas after high winds take a toll on the fittings.

I guess that's maybe true when you are racing but I simply hate leaving and immediately hitting bad weather, unsettles me for ages-I like a nice easy start to any long period at sea!
