Good eveing all

I have recently purchased an orkney longliner 16 with a very tired trailer. I wish to replace this but am looking for recommendations as to where I should buy from? Is there an aluminium version? Many thanks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Aluminium trailers tend to be American imports and are not legal for use in the UK.

Lots of different manufactures, I found De-Graff to be very helpfull and will custom make you one to your exact specifications.

You maybe right about American trailers not being legal for use in the UK (different hitch and axles i think).

But AFAIK there is no reason not to have a trailer made of Aluminium in use of a UK road??

Stand to be corrected though /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You are right, but when I bought a new boat a few years back it was nearly 3000kg dry, to keep it legal to tow I thought an aluminium trailer would solve my problem.

After extensive searching I could only find 1 manufacturer of Aluminium trailers in Europe and the cost was twice that of a very well speced steel one, and it was in Germany.

Ended up with a steel trailer and right on the edge of legality for towing.

I would still love to get a UK spec Ali trailer, but unless Lotus can glue me one together I doubt it will ever happen /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You don't say what part of the country you're from, but as a long time fisherman, longliners are really light weight and any "unbraked" trailer will do.

I am from England - the port of Northampton!! Looks like I am going to have to sort out existing trailer then! Do you (or anyone) know of where I will find replacement wheels? - the tralier has a braking mechanism so the wheels have drum brakes. Hopefully a relatively straighforward task?

As your boat only weighs 182 Kgs, even with gear and outboard a 300 Kg capacity trailer will be more than adequate. So you don't need brakes, or fancy materials as long as it's less than 750 Kgs all-up.

These would be fine Snipe trailers

If you're keeping your trailer, remove all the braking gear. If it's present, legally, it must work. Wheels are available from loads of places. Try here

Any good trailer supplier should carry any bits you need - have you looked in the Yellow pages?

Indespension make good suspension units.
