Origo stove parts

I had my first introduction to an Origo meths stove on my son's boat recently. This is presumably an old model where the hole in the fuel canister goes right through and there is a hole for a funnel to fit in underneath to top up the meths. Well it works well but it's a fiddle topping it up under way in any kind of sea. Luckily spilt meths evaporates quickly!

I can across this US spares site Swego where they show the canisters as now having an absorbent gauze on the underside - much easier Anyone know where you can get those in the UK?

The flame spreader is available here and would seem to be a good idea rather than just a straight flame.

Any other Origo hints. It is a new boat to him and we both made it up as we went along. Very effective except when it runs out - where's that tea got to

Tip number 1 with an Origo stove. Add about 10% of water to the neat meths...this has the effect of decreasing the foul smell of burning meths...dunno why, it just does!!

As regards the burners and other spare bits for Origo's, have a chat with Alan Beal at Heron Yacht Services (01206) 303695...you can also find him down at Dauntless! If it is obtainable in the UK, then Alan is the man to find it for you!

We have had Origo Stoves on all three cruisers we have owned, and in each case replacing the gas systems on board when we purchased. OK, maybe not quite as quick in boiling a kettle as a Gas stove, but hey...who is rushing?

I think the reason for this is because the stove is designed for industrial alchohol at around 91% and our blue meths is around 96%. Adding the water also reduces or stops the sooting of saucepans.

Those spares are for the 1500 and 3000 stoves, they won't fit your son's stove.
I had a 1500 single burner on Aquaplane but Chiron has one of the older double burners that you describe, totally different stoves.

They both work but the newer stove you fill from the top and the hole doesn't go all the way through. The old regulator slider thing is at the bottom over the hole, the new one slides across the top so you don't need the loose little tin lid to put the stove out as you do with the older one.

I put about 250ml (a pint ish between the two cans) in each can on getting to the boat and it lasts all W/E and probably more. I always leave the cans to cool before filling on the inevitable occasion where they run out mid kettle.
