Hi all. We are planning to visit the Ore next week and we have never been in there before. does anyone have any tips or information on the state of the entrance.

apparently some call the Orford Harbourmaster hoping for a guide in; save your phone call, he does not offer the service.
Just treat the entrance with a bit of respect (not fear) and do what the chartlet tells you, all will be well.

We went over the Ore bar last week 1 hour before HW and came out 2+ hours before HW with no problems. Draft 1.6m.
This is what the knolls looked like in April at low water spring tide:-
Yes as RR and Nigel above say, stick to the ECP chart guidance. At more than 2 hours before HW there was quite a swirl at the northernmost part of the knolls at North Weir Point, where the water floods in from the sea across the Ore.
It looked a bit turbulent, but it was not shallow so we went through the middle of it. A friend took the calmer way to the western shore side and found it a bit shallow.

The entrance isn't normally quite as alarming as it appears in low-tide photos but this photo, which I took last month and showed in another thread seems to indicate that it doesn't pay to turn too sharply at the green buoy.

Went in last week with no problems. Just follow the buoys at the entrance and keep an eye on the echo sounder as it is shallow. Much easier than entering the Deben.
Plenty of places to anchor on the 12 miles to Aldeburgh. There are a few visitor moorings at Orford and at Aldeburgh. A commercial mooring at Aldeburgh was only £5 for a 9.8m yacht. Use a dinghy to the yacht club as it has a all tide pontoon (the upstream one). This photo shows the club from a mooring west of the club.

Went in last Saturday as the ebb eased just after low water. No touches unlike the Deben where I had come from a 1 1/2 hours before. Only a couple of feet of water between the reds.

Anybody know how accurate the height predictions are on the bar?
The few times I've been over it there's been a bit more water than predicted but as a newbie on the Ore I bravely chickened out yesterday and anchored near Dove Point instead of leaving the river around 2hr before low water when Willyweather and Easytide said there should be a smudge over 1.5m depth.
While waiting for the flood I was passed by three larger yachts than mine going hard towards the entrance.
Do they perhaps know something I don't?

they shouldn't be far out although, as always, weather patterns can influence.... Did they have lifting keels? I'm always wary about following a Southerly

the predictions on the bar are pretty accurate..if u go over on rising tide and do ground you soon float free(I know I did that ) but be aware if its blowing onshore you can end up going sideways.
