Phoned the sailmaker to find out whether they will be delivering my new sails on Thursday or Friday.
Surprise at the other end of the phone. What Order?
The one I paid a 1500 quid deposit on.
Oh, I am not dealing with that (don't know anything about it), can I get back to you?

Tale to be continued, awaiting callback.

Oh eck

I had pretty much the same. I ordered some parts for my Italian windlass from the importers, hoping to get them for the start of this season. After 2 months I chased it up and they had lost the order. I re-sent the order and have heard nothing since.

Unfortunately there is no one else I can get the parts from.

is it a Lofran's ? if so, I got the various repair kits from www.svb.de

Hope you kept an invoice receipt for the deposit or paid by credit card???

Sounds like QS (plumbing parts) on line service. They lost my order paid for by credit card for an electric shower 3 times.... delivered it incorrectly to the invoice address twice.... and I eventually got it in my office this week, to be told by my fitter he may now be able to fit it in 2 weeks time, having all of a sudden got too much work on. Grrrrrr!!****!!

Just called back.
No sails this week.
No sails next week
Maybe no sails the week after.
When then?
Maybe 2-3 weeks.
Well I asked specifically for delivery this week.
The salesman said we would do what we can.
Wll, we have a divergance of opinion then.

I would like to cancel then.
We have started the sails.
Really, so if I come up to the loft and see them that will be OK?
Ermm.No, I will check back.

Have you measured the boat?
Yes.
When? Could you get production to confirm?
I will get the salesman (who is on holiday abroad) to call you.

Sheesh. It isnt getting any better.

Awaiting further developments.

Can't find spares on their website. Any ideas?

sure
now I remember how I did: if you download their catalogue, on page 29 they list chain gipsies and spare motors, if you need those you have a direct SVB reference number

On the same page they write "Lofrans ersatzteile"something, I do not speak German so I figured it said: "if you need Lofrans spare parts, go to lofran's website, dowload the exploded view of your windlass and write down the parts numbers you need and we will provide a quote". That's what I did anyway and I eventually got the parts from SVB.

From Lofrans.it - english version, click on "Order spare parts" on the left column, then "View exploded", then choose your windlass model. Click on "Vedi esploso" to get the drawing and the part numbers.
In the excel-like spreadsheet some parts appear as sold in Kits and they can only be bought by buying the whole kit, those that are not sold in kits can be bought alone.
Write down the Lofrans Kit or part number and ask a quote to SVB.

By memory, I ordered three or four kits and was pleasantly surprised as how *not* expensive they were.

Salesman calls from holiday.
Communications are obviously a problem as no one in the loft/office really knows what is going on with my order. Which is always going to be a concern.

However, I am assured of a delivery Friday next week. Quite how that rabbit is pulled out of the hat, I dont know. But I am willing to bet that someone else will be disappointed instead of me.

One of the reasons I placed my order was for local personal service and post delivery checking on board, sails hoisted.
This is not going to happen.

I just hope the sails will be good now.

I wish I had saved the 600 quid and gone to my normal sailmaker.

did he call from the Aquarium as he was watching Dolphins:eek:

Had an entirely similar scenario from jeckells sails some 8-9 years ago.

Is it endemic to sailmakers or could it be the same people?
