Umm, what do you expect when a twin outboard powered boat catches the side like that? Gelcoat is mm thin and the glass fibre mat is not that thick either.

yup, certainly hit the weak spot with a couple of tonnes of boat at speed... not may boats would survive, but least of all a small American sports cruiser -

Why does it amaze you? The police rib took most of the impact on its tubes, the sides of a Searay when presented with twin outboard props - most likely stainless - would have been like butter being cut with a hot knive. I would be surprised if the police rib had any signs of damage at all.
