Hi

I have an 18' sailfish which for the last fifteen years I have kept on the South Coast. However, I am now thinking of brining her a little closer to home (Kingston, South West London) for the summer and am considering the opportunities for keeping her on her trailer in a location close to a slipway. The area I am looking at is between Putney and Hampton/Molesey. I will obviously look at the marinas in that stretch (Thames Sailing Club etc), but what I'm really only looking for is somewhere to keep her on her trailer and access to a slipway. I don't need club membership, access to showers and a club bar.

I would therefore be extremely interested in any other suggestions anyone might have for keeping a boat on a trailer in that stretch of the Thames.

We keep several ribs in the area and you are limited unless you are prepared to pay some fairly hefty sums. In the end we gave up and ended up using a caravan storage place instead. It was the most cost effective option when compared to marina costs.

I have started accepting a few boats for storage but I'm waay to far up the Thames for you. I'm charging a Tenner a week. This is for open air storage and a public slipway a mere few feet away.

I'm waay up river. RG8 0JL if you look on Google. Right opposite the Beetle & Wedge at a village called South Stoke. I can't offer dry storage only open air storage.

Wow... I've just done a search for dry berth storage on the Thames and the prices are comparable to the marinas of the Solent, one marina even charges £30 'each way' just to use the slipway!

I rather optimistically thought I could easily find a small boat yard close to a slipway and with reasonable (compares to what I'm used to on the Solent) storage costs. I think I'm going to need to be a bit more creative with my options.

CJL, where do you pay £600/year? From what I can see it is a very good deal!

Well you're in for a shock....cause £600/year is at a Caravan storage place in Hertfordshire, no where near a Thames Slipway!!!

look at boat launch.co.uk for slipways in your area-----then check them out in real life conditions----blocked by parked cars----nowhere to put a trailer if you manage to launch------best of luck ---lenten

That doesn't apply here though it is a VERY valid point. The reason it doesn't apply here is because having launched their boat, they merely put their trailer and car back on my land.

That is worth it's weight in gold. Parking on Thames slipways is less the generous to put it mildly. No parking for trailers, height restrictions, no parking full stop...it's terrible!

Unfortunately no. This is because I issue 'residents' with a key so they can come and go as they please. I can't do this with occasional 'residents'.

fair enough byron----think i have used your slipway for a long day out but didnt feel safe leaving my car/trailer overnight----regards lenten
