Opencpn V3.0.0 released.

Excellent, someone managed to get my initial stab at AIS SART recognition working. (I got as far as displaying it on the commandline)

I think that makes OpenCPN the only chartplotter software to correctly recognise and display a MOB carrying one of the new AIS SARTS.

Hats off to those guys, and all for free. And the google earth plugin has been updated, hurrah, transparent overlay plugin on the way looks interesting. New ais radar plugin looks just like my nasa :)

What charts are people in the UK using with this? No way to get the Memory Map charts working I suppose?

Many Thanks,

Rob

I have just upgraded to V3.0.0 and have it running with my Maptech (Memory Map?) BSB charts. It does need to find the encryption key, which in my case was not in the same folder as the charts, and also required a restart after building the chart database.

Also keen to obtain the UK/Europe tidal data as OpenCPN will then have the functionality I use on Chart Nav Pro.

It still seems to run slower than Chart Nav Pro on my laptop, but it is a bit short of CPU power and memory!

Thought I´d seen it somewhere..

This works on mine, I backed up the original 3 files into a new folder inside C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\tcdata and pasted these in.

Nice

edit. That looks like it just from Dover down to La Rochelle, anyone know of any data further afield?

I use [removed]. Not strictly legal but I´ve spent loads on paper charts around here anyway so not too bothered.

OK, I'm now on the new version and have a boat icon of a 40 foot boat which increases or decreases in size as I zoom in and out so it's in correct proportion to the chart. I don't think this is really that much use but it's quite interesting!

One thing though - I have never been able to get the boat icon to show in the Google Earth plug-in. Has anyone else achieved this?

Richard

In v3 it is done differently see:

Using an alternative data set

Down load WXTides.zip from http://fserv.skill-club.com/get_1088_156a.html
For Win XP, the folder it goes in is in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\opencpn\UserTCData
You have to create [UserTCData]
NOT in the \Program Files\OpenCPN
Note: my path was NOT OpenCPN_Conf, just opencpn
I have renamed the tcdata folder in the zip file to WXTides

Yes, WXTides :)

Muchos Gracias for WXTides stuff, never tried to do that before but it was straightforward.

btw, my old laptop doesnt really like OpenGL. It has the Intel 915 GM/GMS, 910 GML chipset with the most current Intel drivers. I've had a couple of odd errors that I've never seen before with OCPN when trying out OpenGL. Most recently, coming back from hibernation, OCPN seemed to have taken over the display and the only fix was a POR - Alt/Tab and CtrlAltDel both failing to work.

For Win7 the data path is different to XP.

The following works for Win7:

C:\ProgramData\opencpn\UserTCData\WXtides

Note:

- "C:\ProgramData" is a hidden folder by default
- Create "UserTCData\WXTides" folders
- Copy the 2 harmonics files into this directory
