Opencpn for Android production release

Thanks for that. I did it the hard way over a year ago. It's been working fine on my Nexus 7 2013 - used in anger all ound the Med this summer. Then, this morning my Linux install fell over - and I can't find my hand crafted notes...

So thanks again, this will save a load of work!

Running well on the Nexus - much faster than the clunky Linux/bVNC set up with WifiShare which was a fiddle to start up.

Also now running well on my Samsung Galaxy 5S (charts on SD Card).

Thanks again!

I'm having trouble downloading it.

If I try it on my PC, the link from the forum takes me to dropbox where there's a link to download it.

If I try it on the phone the only option I get is "open with the dropbox app"

so we download the dropbox app and it's now asking me to set up an account.

I don't want all this palava, I just want to download it and install it on the phone.

EDIT

the dropbox app only seems to want me to upload files to dropbox. I want to download and run a file someone else has already put on dropbox.

Next question.

Now do I copy the charts (on my PC) to the Android? email them? I'm not sure if i can send files that big by email.

I don't understand the android file system so where would I copy them to?

To save file size, does anyone have a list of which CM93 files I need just for a UK set of charts?

I have loaded the charts onto the SD card BUT  cant get the system to find them. PLEASE please what the hell am i doing wrong

Once the chart files are on your Android device (connect tablet to PC with a USD cable) just go into OpenCPN on the Android device to tools / charts and browse to the folder where you charts are. Mine is called CM93 and all the chart folders are below that. It's actually exactly the same as on PC as the Android version is virtually identical. Being able to zoom in and out by pinching and moving the chart by swiping is much better though.

You may well still be able to browse to them in which case that should be fine. I put mine in the tablet memory just to ensure maximum speed but I might try moving them to the SD card later. If you are on Lollipop I think you will be able to use the SD card. With KitKat it's more hit and miss and it might not like them being on the SD card. You'll see when you try to browse from within OpenCPN.

How I did it
App wouldn't unpack when downloaded to Tablet, so I downloaded to PC then Xfered it to a folder on tablet using a USB cable connection. The same with the CMap folder.
To install you need to allow install of 3rd party apps in Security.

After install I ran the app ok.
To point to cmap folder on tablet
Go to top left spanner - charts - add directory
keep tapping top folder with dots (which takes you up a level each tap) till you get to top level
then go down the list of folders till you find the (cmap) folder, then click apply.
I also went to top right of opencpn window (3 vertical dots), down to opencpn settings, click on charts, chart files, then do as above - keep tapping top folder with dots (which takes you up a level each tap) till you get to top level
then go down the list of folders till you find the (cmap) folder, then tap add.

Other things I did
Go to top left spanner - charts - Vector Chart Display.
Near the bottom is CM93 Detail Level
Slide level to right, but not fully, to get more detail on charts
and tick box De-Cluttered Text
and top right of opencpn window (3 vertical dots), Toggle ENC text

Then closed Opencpn and reopened.

If you have Routes on PC, you can export them and import them on Tablet / Phone
Hope this helps
