I had this problem my self and had to conclude that if there isn't an app iPad is pretty uncommunicative.
I gave up and loaded the maps onto my to my toshiba net book
On the iPad I have loaded both the jeppson CMap app and the imray charts. Both work well but cost a few pounds. The main benefit is that they both work with the iPad internal gps to provide a true plotter capability.
Good luck

You download in compressed form (if you're referring to CMap) and have to unzip them before linking into the programme.
World-Wide charts, when unzipped amount to 5.4Gb, so an iPad will probably be memory-challenged.

I suggest you delete everything and start again
iPad can only work successfully through apps. The apps are usually free or small money but you have to pay for charts.
So choose your flavour. I would recommend imray for reference charts and CMap for gps navigation, although Navionics seem to have a strong following.
Open through the apps in the App Store and follow the install directions. Once installed the app will give you access to the charts library for which you will have to pay. Still cheap compared to paper or chart-plotter files. Most apps will give you access to route planning and gps tracking so easy to use.
Since going the iPad route I've virtually abandoned OpenCPN and the maps file as too cumbersome and quirky.

Delete the whole lot , if they can't make it user friendly , I not going to bother , maybe it just me ,
Instead I am looking into ISAILOR look a lot easier to use , anyone with better idea please tell .
just one thing , as I said on another posting , I would back up with paper chart , even out of date ones at less it all goes pair shape you have some thing to use .
