It rained and blew like stink...why does that always happen on Open Day. We had to cancel the Sail Past after 3 yachts made it and the rest dissapeared into the rain .
Now ...question. Do many Clubs in UK still have "Sail Pasts" and give the VIPs three cheers, or is it only here "down under" that we still cling to a British tradition ?

Brian, we have an open day to (and it always rains) but in general we do observe traditions so much so that on the Admirals Cruise bye there are cannon going off and ensigns going up and down flag poles with the speed of a Pompy whores knickers<s>

What we did at Cowes.

During Yachting Monthly's Classic Yacht Rallies at Cowes the Sail Past, or Grand Parade of Sail as we pompously called it, was the highlight of the four-day event.

The Governor of the Isle of Wight took the salute from the Royal Yacht Squadron platform. Each yacht dipped her ensign on passing the saluting base. The fleet then moored in formation (a splendid piece of seamanship) and was reviewed by the Governor aboard a classic motor yacht. As he passed each vessel he would be given three cheers with much hat doffing and even waving. Some people were suficiently carried away as to hoot horns.

It brought a tear to the eye.

It never rained nor blew a gale.
