MagnaC - you mentioned you were looknig for a boat, have you seen Evening Star on boatshed? There's a nice boat to buy. Composite double-ender, about 34 feet. Got £37K? or £37k you could lend me???!
Or www.eveningstar.ch
Hee hee.... the money (what money? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) is all very much allocated to my own boat project!
Yes, we are looking, but our plan is buy something that is also our 'clear off around the world' boat, so while the boat looks nice, its not what I am looking for...
We are looking 40 to 44 feet, good sea keeping, and in the short term twin aft cabins to keep the kids happy, plus decent passage making speed...
Current favourite is a Sun Magic 44, which we are going to see on 26th.....
You'd be ok in your boat if you watched the forecast carefully, but a 115 would be a perfect boat for the trip...
if you think that's big , ask him about my big boat /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif although I'm not sure I could fit a mast to her /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Hee hee... at one point I sat in Oostende with 55kts blowing outside, looking at the latest synoptic chart i'd downloaded which showed high pressure with isobars huge distances apart as current weather..... ho hum!

FullCircle and Goldfish, in Full Circle.
I take it you mean on the customary annual weekend when the Oostenders have their annual shindig, and its all very crowded?
i.e May Bank Holiday Weekend.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you need to pre-book a berth if its very busy?
and what is the consequence if its blowing a hooly and i cant get over?
I of course would prefer no wind and 25 degs of sunshine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
...in which case, we'll see you off Harwich with our towing bridle ready for your rope! You won't mind sticking to seven knots, will you? And we'll buy you a beer!
If its really windy, then you'll probably not be the only one not making it...
Besides, as per your request, I have arranged 25 degrees weather, but sadly the only package left also had 15kts of South Westerly wind... hope thats OK? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
wind /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ,,,,,,,, WIND /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ,,,,,,,,,,, is that a requirement with a hankie boat then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
seriously though , how windy does it have to be to count as a no go for this trip and where's the best site to look out for weather reports for the east coast and channel ?
As a rule - Robert does not take bookings - first come, first served.
However, he does take the occasional pre-booking from Mobo's. The Shotley lot do it from time to time.
Try calling him just after you've set off or as soon as you've passed Westhinder - if you're no more than 2-3 hours off he might hold a berth for you.
Doug i have only ever known the Montgomery Dock "Closed" once. there have been times when we have had another row of boats rafted astern of us, all very cozy.
dont worry too much /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
