Well, now it's known.....

In my first season of diving, 1989, we blew an engine up in Jack Sound. Piston rod through the casing. We were towed back to Martin's haven and three of us managed to recover a 5m Rib with a 60HP johnson with my mates cavalier. If you know the 'beach' you'll know that wasn't easy.

The following week, we had our other club RIB down there, again diving the wreck of the Lucy, off North Haven. More engine failure, a punctured tube and another tow back to Martin's haven. Another recovery. On the way back to Haverfordwest, the winch let go of the strap at the bow, the bow came loose and went into a tree, ripping the RIB off the trailer.

One of the reasons that I am so 'overcareful' when it comes to boating is those two weeks in my formative years.

Graham, just along the coast, towards Little Haven, is a spot called Goultrop roads. It is an old anchorage, used by sailing ships in years gone by. I fancy anchoring there when I get a chance. No shelter in Northerlies, clearly, and there are 6 recorded shipwrecks there to prove that.
