Online delivery charges

Try Bosun Bobs at www.bosunbobs.com where the postage cost to UK is listed beside every item.
Despite being in N. Ireland the postage to UK is the same no matter where it is going, not like mainland based chandleries who charge for every hill or water crossing. Postage is free on items over £50 too.

I have looked at stuff on Amazon which had excessive delivery charges.
Can anyone explain the mainland thing with carriage charges? They want more money to deliver to the Highlands as it apparently isn't on the mainland despite being on the same island. One winter day when the weather is bad and I am bored I might see what advertising standards think of it!

Many carriers charge more for the more remote (yes, that includes Aberdeen) parts of Scotland, presumably because it takes a long time to get there and the population density is low, meaning a lot of local delivery miles. We escape in the SW because we're reasonably near Carlisle, I think.

Yes, as you no doubt know, it's called cherry-picking, from which the Royal Mail is prohibited. Level playing-field, my stern.

And then, if you're not in when the van calls, for me it was an mile drive to the depot. For many it will be further. Contrast this with strolling to the local post office (not possible for everyone, I know.) I wouldn't mind if they gave you the option of independent carrier/Royal Mail, but few do...because, in this respect, at least, they operate for their convenience rather than the customers.

I always ask for stuff to come by Parcelforce if possible, because if I miss the delivery it waits at the local delivery office, three miles away. Citylink goes 20 miles away and the rest are in Carlisle, except for Home Delivery Network in (shudder) Irvine.

I won't use certain chandlers simply because they try and charge me "Highlands and Islands" rates. Force 4 being one.
If I was in Stornoway or Kirkwall I wouldn't mind, but Aberdeenshire?
Some chandlers can do it for the same price as the rest of the UK.
