Have you seen the BBC weather site lately? It has a section called Coast and Sea at this location:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/

As well as the shipping forecast it now has high seas covering most of the N Atlantic, an extended forecast 4 days ahead (albeit brief but covering warnings about high winds) and a coastal section with mini forecasts broken into 6 hours periods. Not to mention the weather buoys, 4 days of Atlantic charts and host of links (including this place!).

I'm impressed.

I wonder how long this facility will last now that the beeb have been told to rein back and not let the web site compete with commercial offerings.

The BBC website...

The BBC website must surely be one of our national treasures. It's absolutely packed with information, most of it seemingly accurate, and it's fast!

Yes, I saw you were unhappy about some aspects. My comment was about the overall service provided by www.bbc.co.uk which, as I said, I consider to be one of our national treasures - as it should be, I guess, because we're all paying for it.

Re: The BBC website...

I think the layout is brilliant so far and I just asked for some tweaks.

They still have not acknowledged my post other than an auto reply nor have they dated and timed the inshore forecast, therefore unfortunately the item you want most cannot be trusted. Knowing how web pages can be neglected this is a serious error and one which I thought might be addressed immediately on receipt of my letter.

Ah well

I wonder how the flogging off of BBC Technology to Siemens will affect things too.

Seem to have been a bit slow here. On a point of detail, the individual areas are not timed/dated but the national forecasts for all areas are.
