It’s already cost two trips to Coruna and four cups of coffee!
When doing boat work, I calculate my hourly rate at (zero minus fcukups). Because it can cost more doing it for nothing than paying someone.....for example, extra time for storage on land because the work is taking way longer than in your mind. My main reasons for doing it myselfAnd there you have it...
Time only has a value if somebody want to pay for your services (and, respectfully, you are willing to do the work).
Ah, but consider the gains in Wansworth's free time once he's no longer investing most of it into the activity of not buying a boat.If you set his own time to a cost greater than zero…it would start an argument
For a brief mommentI think a little comfort for Wansworth is in order.

Beautiful as she is, she regrettably is an imagination. Doesn't exist..
It is the result of inputting "Free sail boat in Galician marina, in summer sun" into an AI image generator.
Sorry for teasing.
Hi All
Well, we bought a boat, Pandemic passions.
It didn't work out for us.
We're retiring moving north and have neither the skills nor the aptitude to fix her up as she deserves. So despite the sound survey when we bought her she's shabby and neglected. Recoverable but needs tlc. Sound hull, rudder, mast, sails, tender (walker bay) etc etc. Engine runs but needs scrub and rewire.
£free to save us paying a fortune to get her scrapped which she does not deserve.
If she has to go we have to lower the deck stepped tabernacled mast to get her on the lorry
Can we just run lines from above the spreaders and through winches, loops to lower it slowly down? Safety first but don't need to worry about damage UTC
Advice appreciated
Cheers
G

Paying for transport may be a good boat at cheaper price...He has….but said (and I quote) ´I want free but it has to be within walking distance’
Isn't knowing the exact botch-up a part of the benefit? (Works for me!)When doing boat work, I calculate my hourly rate at (zero minus fcukups). Saving money (debatable)
Prefer the job done properly (debatable)
Stubbornness (indisputable)
Can’t find reliable professional (usual)
I know people won’t believe me....but my biggest problem is that I strive for perfection.....and that creates chaos at level similar to just after the Big Bang. I spend huge amounts of time (and money) trying to find an alternative better way of doing everything.....my specialty is trying to make a two man job into a one man job....this stretches my creativity to breaking point.Isn't knowing the exact botch-up a part of the benefit? I belive you….I have the same problem !……….must be a syndromeI know people won’t believe me....but my biggest problem is that I strive for perfection.....and that creates chaos at level similar to just after the Big Bang. Most times I am very happy with the results.....but the cost in money, time, blood, sweat and swearing is huge. And as the wife points out, should have got a man in (the most emasculating words a woman can say)

I agree.... but getting in an expert requires an expert. You make appointment after appointment....go in personally....my favorite is returning to the office three times, and when asking what happened, they say, who are you ?...also, when you do get someone...they are often not more skilled...just more flexible.I always consider if I can do the task at hand to a result that I want. It's simply a matter of (honestly) recognising my own limitations.
If it's about a result that true specialists have the skills and tools for, I usually leave the job to them.
And long may it continueWe should admire Wansworth for staying on this forum after all the ribbing he gets about his protracted boat buying process. He takes it all in good heart unlike some who go off in a huff. Let us all hope he is getting much closer to getting back on the water.
Theres a speech in Pride and Preduice about the neighbours taking the piss …..it’s all good fun and who knows I may need advice with my new boat!We should admire Wansworth for staying on this forum after all the ribbing he gets about his protracted boat buying process.
