Apparently they've caused more deaths than they've saved, due to people accidentally setting them off during takeoff and landing.

Think I'll stick to just wearing a parachute, and hoping I've got time to get the canopy off.

Then again, a few people have died through setting off their parachute while on the ground, and being dragged off when it fills with wind. Looks like you can't win.

You'd have to be monumentally stupid to release the parachute accidentally. Good for the gene pool, maybe!

"To deploy the parachute a person must use approximately 35lbs of pressure, and two separate manouvers." In addition, the panic handle is in the overhead under a detachable panel, and nowhere near the flying controls.
