When a topic is posted you reply with your comments.

But most of you are too damn lazy to indicate in the subject line any hint of your arguement or opinion.

I don´t bother to read any part of a thread that just repeats the subject line preceded by "Re:"

It is usually some quirkey psuedo-Gallic comment.

???????????????? Wha's that ??????????

But I am Reading It

Quote;

"Personally, I never look at the subject header, the content is far more important "

True but I have to look at the header first and then decide whether or not to bother opening the post.
I must have missed lots of good stuff because the headers were just left unchanged, just as I have waded through dross for the same reason.

And Another Thing...

I threw that in on the grounds that it was guaranteed to cause confusion.

I don´t even understand it myself.

It all depends

On if one reads in threaded mode. In threaded mode all you can see is the subject line and the post you're reading, so editing the subject line would give one a precis of each thread, whereas in flat you can see all the replies but don't know which one replies to which anyway, unless only the first reply edits the subject line. I think. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Aaaah !

This is just the kind of thing I am on about.

But haven't you failed to edit the subject line on this post?

Not so. I view in flat mode by default (set via User Options). If I reply to someone by clicking on the Reply link on their message then the subject line of my reply will show who I'm replying to - in this case [Re: Dave_White].
A blind man on a galloping horse couldn't miss it /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Not: Codswallop

What I meant was, if you're reading a thread from the top and two or five people generate a sub-thread it is nearly impossible to follow it in flat mode if it is interspersed with other sub-threads. Let alone find where the end is. If you go into threaded mode you can see the tree and authors but all the subject lines are (usually) identical e.g. re:BlahBlahBlah, so you have no idea which message is which without opening them all, and you have to remember them after you've gone onto the next one 'cos threaded mode only displays one message at a time.

Hope that's clear now:)

You\'re a teacher or CS aren\'t you?

Sorry sir, wont happen again sir, how dare we misuse your forum in this way sir.

Good God, is there nothing we can do right on this forum now!

Re: You\'re a teacher or CS aren\'t you?

To blurry complicated for me.

Just want a nice easy life; no stealth taxes; no Gov't bodies waiting to whip me off to chokey for minor disdemeanors, No three Jags (inflation), no Red Diesel, no flags No hope.....

So if it makes no difference to the content just read the content????

See post title for content. For clarity I have put the content there - I'll now put the title of the post in the space for the content as there is nowhere in the title space for it.
