There is so little coverage of sailing on telly, that I thought to mention something which could be fun. There is a program, I think on Wednesday (pls someone confirm or correct) and called something like 'Fakers'. The hero of the piece is taken from their normal circumstance and coached to fake something else. In this case, the something else is a yottie of some description.

Might be quite a laugh.

(I don't have to agree with YOUR opinions, but I'll defend your right to express them).

Noted will try and remember to watch

but will she learn to sail with her engine on and tack under the bow of approaching stinkies whilst waving her fist at them.??

Maybe, just once, someone will call me sir without adding, you're making a scene

Don't think it's a ferry captain, it's some bird who works on the ferries and she's being trained up by The Challenge Business to skipper one of their 72' in a ridiculously short amount of time (couple of weeks I think). Well done her. Will certainly be better than most mid-week TV.

Good on her!
Hope she succeeds, two weeks though to teach her, must be very intensive
course, The thought of it does my head in! took me longer than that
to get the G.P.S to reveal it's secrets,

I know I'm being slow today (long weekend) but what sort of a fag would you be smoking if it wasn't a smoking fag?

Last night there was a thing on Chay Blythe's "challenge" Transat.

Quite interesting but why do all yachting programmes/videos have such appalling electronic music?

How to be a yotties in 2 days

Can't quite see how they are gonna fake their way around being a yotties skipper in 2 weeks. How are they gonna drag it out that long?

1) wander round a chandlery for three hour and buy nothing at all.
2) complain about nice places, and the chandlery.
3) devise interesting ways of pretending your boat is shorter.
4) think up new terms of abuse for everyone on the water, including all sailing boats a bit bigger (eg the proportions are all wrong) and a little bit smaller (eg not really a serious boat)
5) Visit one place (by aeroplane) such as Gibraltar and examine the port in spectacualar detail. Drone on about it at every opportunity, and praps refer to "gib" to purposely confuse people with "jib" and thereby have to explain that you mean Gibraltar, and dron about it some more.
6) Develop a nutcase fanaticism, such as the exact number of figure of eights thast should be puit ona cleat, or never using figures of eight, or always doing them clockwise instead of anticlockwise.
7) when anchoring, get someone to count exactly how much chain they have put out. Regardless of how much they have put out, put out a bit more. Same with tying the boat up: always put on another line, or retie a perfectly good knot.
8) remove all pleasant food from the galley, or give it to the dog. Replace with soggy packets of biscuits, old fruit and useless tins with no labels on them.
9) get lots of packets of matches. Light each match in turn and put it back in the packet, except for about six matches in one box for you to produce with a sigh when someone complains that there are no matches. Similarly, bash most of the pencils in the same way so that only you will know which of the fifteen pencils hasn't got knackered lead and will fall apaprt if anyone tries to sharpen it.
10) stop shaving(this why it's two days, not one)
11) when asked about the tides, especially 2ndary ports just say that it's near xyz, so we'll use that.
12) Don't gues any of the lights exxcept the most simple combinations. Even so, whenever lights appear at night, don't identify them, just mutter "could be anything, I never assume that they know what lights they should have, we saw a big container shiop towing a trawler in Gib once and etc etc..."

She's a stewardess. If she gives up shaving for two days her legs will get hairy. Or do you know something abt P&O stewardesses we don't?

Sounds perfectly accurate to me. Also see my post on 'Sailing simulation on PC'. You could just add the two together for the full yachty experience.

..well it's a pretty good start but there are lots of other things you could mention and plenty of mileage in;

Sailing club behaviour
Fair weather sailing
Marina life
Race course antics
Shaggy sailing stories

thought a bit light on anti stinkie stuff

keep trying:))
