Dropped my"Flying saucer" variety and it didn't like it.
With great difficulty managed to open it up.
Nice array of elements but then discovered a quite complex electronic assembly which had detached itself from the array.
I assume it draws power from the little amplifier at the tv end via the coax cable.
A replacement is around £200.
Any suggestions for an alternative please.

Look at the Maxview Omnimax aeriel. I've had one for 20+ years, always works well with an average signal strength. Just hoist it up the rigging for greater range!

Compact type Yagi on a pole on the pushpit. Remove when sailing and put back when in harbour, Signal is directional so turn to best picture when in port. Use quick connects on co-ax to make it easy to put up and take down. Won't cost £200. Why stick more up the mast than you really need.

The omni will have an amplifier at the antenna. Fed by 12v up the coax cable. The box at the bottom will at least have the 12v supply and components to separate the signal from the power. ol'will

I had a flying saucer om my masthead in my last boat. I took it off when I did a refit, I used to hoist it on a halyard tied off on the backstay and got pretty good reception. This year on my new boat in desperation I connected the vhf antenna which is on the pushpit and was surprised to get just as good reception. To receive some channels I had to attach a short piece of wire to the top of the rod and pull this horizontally towards the sprayhood..we use a digital TV System like freeview.

Point being: maybe try using just a vhf or ais antenna. You may be surprised .

Years ago i had the omni ariel with "booster amp" absolute rubbish.

Bought a standard compact roof ariel, and when needed, looked at the nearest properties to see the general direction they were pointing and the polarity of the ariel ....verticle or horizontal. quick bungee attatchment too boom or wherever, bingo,,,Great reception!!!
